It's true, you can use your TCR software just as if you were sitting in front of your computer.
The Time Cycles Team has been doing it for quite some time, and so have many of your fellow Mac astrologers.
Currently we are using a remote desktop App called Splashtop (www.splashtop.com). The small annual connection fee gives you access to your entire computer (all of your computers) from anywhere. There are several similar Apps, this just happens to be the one that we prefer because it works so well. Splashtop allows you to securely connect to your home computer from anywhere using either a WIFI or 3G or 4G connection. It is easy, fast, password protected and gives you full access to all of your installed TCR astrology programs, your charts and files. It's just as if you were sitting in front of a full computer because - in effect you are. We all agree that it works best with an iPad because of the larger screen, but it will work from any mobile device - and it is not limited to just Apple tablets and phones; Splashtop will let you access your Mac(s) from most current mobile devices. Of course because of their larger screens tablets are superior to phones.
Why would you "settle" when you don't have to?
Most of you are accustomed to full featured astrology programs with the flexibility to perform a wide range of astrological tasks, "Apps" just do not do it for you. Further, why should you pay for more software, have to learn to use it, then have to constantly coordinate your astrology charts and data across several different devices and programs or worse yet, store them on a server somewhere that anyone can hack??? That's just crazy; it's time consuming and costly, and unnecessary.
Astrology is not "App - ropriate"
Apps are fine, some of them anyway, but they are limited by the nature of the devices on which they reside and operate. A good App is narrowly focused on a single task or very limited set of tasks. That's why the good ones do what the do well. That's also why they are so cheap. But, astrology is not simple; it is a very complex art and science that requires the power of a comprehensive, precision software program, if you want to do it right. The more advanced your astrological experience and skills, the more your work demands of your tools, meaning your astrology software. Access to all of your chart types, graphs, and reports, as well as all of your securely stored chart data is more than just a convenience, it is a necessity for anyone serious about their astrology.
Security IS an issue
Another factor to consider is that Apps are often bound to and at some level dependent upon some company's servers, and your information is often stored where it is available to anyone and everyone; something those of you with clients who are celebrities or public figures cannot permit. Even if you are doing charts for just for your family, friends and co-workers, you don't want them exposed. On a server your data can be "mined." It can be rented or sold. It may or may not be secure. Your own password protected computers are likely the safest place for this personal data. An additional note: though today many offer the "Cloud" as a free storage option, that service will not continue to be free. In the real world someone has to pay for those servers and the people who maintain them. One source of income is the server owner's ability to sell the information they gather from the files you store. You also may have noticed that companies are beginning to charge a fee for storage beyond a certain file size or require payments for services previously offered at no charge. Remember the saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
The Conclusion is obvious
If you can use the "real thing," the software that you have already invested your money, time, and effort into, why would you do anything else. The advantages, the savings, and the security of your data are clear. Keep your software and your data safe at home, but access it whenever and from wherever you want.
At present we believe this is the best approach to recommend to our Mac Astrologers and prospective customers. Feedback from the the Mac astrologers using this approach has been overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic.
For those of you who do not already own TCR Graphic Astrology software, this is just one more reason to do so.
